We landed in Tokyo Narita airport, 12 hours after we’d set off from London; however, rather than it being midnight UK time, due to the 9 hour time difference it was 9am the following day in Tokyo, meaning we’d missed a full night’s sleep. I was pleased that the next two days were without shows.
There were several security personnel with sniffer dogs in the airport baggage reclaim area. I watched one dog get very excited as it was led past someone’s duty free bag – the dog’s handler inspected the contents of the bag and found a box of biscuits!
After getting through security we were met by one of our promoters, Izumi. She greeted us and led us to a bus stop where we waited for a bus to take us into Tokyo and to our hotel.
When we arrived in downtown Tokyo we were met by our other promoter, Tetsuya who arranged taxis to take us the short distance to our hotel.
Checking into our hotel, there was only one thing on my mind… sleep. I got up to my 16th floor room to find an amazing view of the city, as well as some very interesting features in the room itself – a toilet with a heated seat and built in jet spray button was a definite highlight!
In my room was a small basket of the usual complimentary items. As appears to be the case in Japan, everything was very clearly labeled…
There was a comb…
… a couple of toothbrushes…
… a “handy razor”…
…a shower cap…
… and, err…
I slept for most of the day; using the logic that the 5 days we were going to be in Japan weren’t going to be enough for me to adjust to the time zone, so I figured if I just slept when I was tired at least it would be easier to get back into UK time when I returned home.
I set my alarm for 8pm, giving me time to have a shower before we met the promoters in the hotel lobby at 9pm to go to dinner.
… After a short walk from the hotel we arrived at a small restaurant complete with golden whale hanging from the ceiling.
…A great meal and an opportunity to get to know our hosts.
