A few days ago I received a message on Facebook:
“Hi Paul, I have a question I hope you could answer (or if you could be kind enough to ask Carl. 4/1/05 (April 1, 2005) Carl played a gig at the Baja Prog Festival, Teatro del Estado, Mexicali, Mexico. You played the guitar but the bass-player was not Simon or Stuart Clayton. It sounded as if Carl introduced him as John Wekoff or John Wycoff. Could you please be kind enough to give me the exact name of the musician?”
The bassist was John Wheatcroft, but the detailed nature of the question suggested that this guy wasn’t remembering the name from 16 years ago, instead he’s heard a recording recently and was trying to make out what Carl was saying. So, I asked him if that was the case, and sure enough it was.
When he offered to send me a copy, I was expecting the usual audience member bootleg, but it turned out to be very different. Somehow the venue must have shot a multi-camera video without us knowing, and then edited it together into this rather fine looking concert film.
I’ve flicked through it, but haven’t watch it yet – I thought I’d save that until we’re all together.
